Dr. Geoffrey Wood has been a professional educator and performer in the southeast for the last 8 years. Originally from Massachusetts, he completed his doctorate at the University of Georgia in 2016 and remained in Athens until he recently relocated to Atlanta. He has been a member of the Athens based groups: The Funk Brotherhood and the Whitehall Jazz Collective. In the past he has performed internationally and with world renowned musicians such as Randy Brecker, Peter Erskine, Wayne Wallace, and Perpetual Groove. Since 2018 he has been a full time member of the band Funk You and appears on their 2018 release What’s On Your Mind. He also helped compose the majority of their upcoming album Moving Forward which will be released in early 2021. He earned his masters degree from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and his bachelors from the University of Iowa. When he is not on tour or teaching Dr. Wood enjoys cooking, hanging out with friends and playing golf.
