Born to a musical family in Louisville Kentucky, Kathleen Kee started cello at age 10 with her aunt Grace Whitney, principal cellist of the Louisville Orchestra. She attended Indiana University where she studied with the world renown cellist Janos Starker for 5 years. After leaving IU she joined the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, playing with them for 34 years. A prolific teacher, she was an adjunct Professor of Cello at Spelman College, taught for the ASO Talent Development Program, and had her own private studio of cello students.

After retiring from the ASO, Mrs.Kee moved to Athens to be close to family. She has enjoyed being a grandmother and has continued teaching aspiring cellists in the Athens area.
