clarinet and voice
Sarah Lawing received her doctoral and masters degrees in clarinet performance from the University of Georgia, and her undergraduate degrees in clarinet performance and music education (voice) from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She has taught applied clarinet at the University of West Georgia and served as a graduate teaching assistant in the Music Theory department of the Hugh Hodgson School of Music where she taught ear training to undergraduate music majors. Sarah was a winner of the UGA Symphony Orchestra's annual concerto competition, and has performed at several national and international conventions including ClarinetFest, MTNA, CBDNA, and ASTA.
Dr. Lawing is currently the Director of Children's Music at Athens First United Methodist Church, where she leads a graded children's choir program and teaches music classes in the weekday preschool. Additionally, she leads worship weekly with an acoustic ensemble consisting of Athens-area musicians. In 2017 she served as clinician for the annual Oconee County Elementary Honors Chorus. Sarah lives in Watkinsville with her husband and two daughters.
