Stan Flanders

Stan Flanders is an Athens, GA-based musician, teacher, and instrument repair technician who currently serves as the adjunct instructor of clarinet and saxophone at Young Harris College.

 

As a music educator and lecturer Dr. Flanders regularly gives masterclasses throughout Northeast Georgia. His students consistently perform in district and all-state band along with various honor ensembles and have received such accolades as the Classic Center Cultural Foundation Scholarship.

 

Dr. Flanders is a student of many genres of music leading him to a diverse performance career. He has performed and given lectures at NASA regional and national conferences along with working with various groups and musicians such as Big Star Third, Jason Scheff (Chicago), Mike Mills (REM) and Narayanan Muralikrishnan. He has also opened for acts such as Primus and Sun O))) as a founding member of the experimental ensemble :lovesongs.

 

When Dr. Flanders is not musicking he enjoys fishing, cooking, and playing with his awesome daughter, Phoebe.

 

He is a graduate of Columbus State University (BM) and the University of Georgia (MM, DMA). His teachers include Amy Griffiths, Kenneth Fischer, Stephen Fischer, Eugene Rousseau, Joseph Wytko and Connie Frigo.
